I am curious about the amount of electricity needed to produce/operate a wafer fab. I hear about how much power is used by the computer chips, but have never seen the amount of power needed to make the chips themselves.
Well, it depends. Are you talking about the whole process from crystal growth to chip delivery or some subset of that.
Regardless, the answer is going to be a lot. I used to work in a crystal growth lab in school and although we never specifically studied how much power it took it had to be a lot because it sure was hot!
