What is the democratic and Obama version of alternative energy? When will it be available at what cost?
Can all people of America change their cars and energy usage to alternative one?
We have >150 millions cars in USA. Can car owners abandon theirs for newer versions in 5-10 years time if alternatives available.
Let me quote Obama himself:
"There are things you can do individually, though, to save energy," Obama said. "Making sure your tires are properly inflated – simple thing. But we could save all the oil that they're talking about getting off drilling – if everybody was just inflating their tires? And getting regular tune-ups? You'd actually save just as much!"

there is no easy solution… even more drilling is simply putting a tiny band aid on a gaping wound…
the market will most likely go through a very painful transfer… marked by large overall inflation and high energy costs…

OK, here is the Democrat plan: Give big government grants to anybody with an alternative energy idea. All blacks and females with proposals get money, even if they don't actually have an idea because of, well, slavery. Wait a few years. When nothing comes of any of the grants, blame the Republicans.

like everything that comes out of obama's mouth, it is all hype. they, (dems) spoutoff about alternative energy, when it isn't available in a usable, feasable form, nice dream but if it ain't here, it ain't here. i think the dems took a page out of jfk's playbook that was not intended to be the order of all things, when he announced that a man would be put on the moon and gave a time liimit, with out the technology. it was a brave, one time only type step, not a good basic plan of how to do things.

Cars engine running on compressed air will go on the market in Europe this decade and Mexico has already pre-ordered a fleet of them. Electric cars have already been around for years, they just have not been mass marketed.
Watch "Who Killed The Electric Car?". You will scratch your head after finding out that GM scrapped the program all together even though it was popular and in demand.

IF they are available–yes.
How much: less than you pay now–either for cars or for fulel.
Let me give you an example: the new Tessla. it's a high-end sports car–and is about the same price as other (gas-powered ) cars intended for that market. It outperforms any gas-powered production car ever built.
It has a 200+ mile range–and the cost for a full charge is $4 (no, i did not leave out a zero–that is four dollars).
We won't have universal electric cars for quite awhile–but midrange versions are already in the works.
We have–NOW–the technology to double the average fuel efficiency of gasoline engines. That would cut your fuel cost, CO2 emissions, and our dependence on foreign oil, all in half. Besides the cost savings to you—these cars would cost no more on average than todays cars.
No one will have to "abandon" cars. They will be phased in jsut as any new technology is–by replacing existing cars when they reach the end of their useful life and by capturing market growth.
That is how capitalism acutally works. It's about innovation and developing new ideas to reduce costs and solve problems. It is NOT about whining because an obsolete technology like oil has seen its day and is due to be scrapped for better ideas.
The same goes for energy across the board. There are advanced systems now–and more under development–that will gradually replace older technology for other uses. Solar, wind, and nuclear power–probably tidal and geothermal as well.
Those alternatives are all available and working–today. Whether they get implemented and you get the benefits of lower costs an d a cleaner environment is up to you . You can continue fixating on oil and coal–or you can support real capitalism: new ideas and investment, entrepreneurs and progress.

The Obama/Democratic version is available now.
It runs on your positive feelings (and a little hard work) of helping to save the environment.
Costs varies, depending on the model you choose.
